About Holi·days

Holi·days is a free, live countdown timer for the major holidays people search for most — Christmas, New Year, Halloween, Easter, Valentine's Day, Thanksgiving, and more. Pick a holiday and watch days, hours, minutes, and seconds tick down in real time, right up to the moment it arrives.

What it covers

Twelve holidays in total, mixing fixed dates (like Christmas on December 25) with moveable ones calculated fresh each year (like Easter and Thanksgiving). Each holiday card also shows how far into the year you are on the way to it, plus a short origin story for where the date comes from.

How the dates are calculated

Fixed holidays use straightforward calendar math. Moveable holidays use well-established formulas — Easter uses the standard Gregorian algorithm for the first Sunday after the first full moon following the spring equinox, and holidays like Thanksgiving use "nth weekday of the month" rules (e.g. the fourth Thursday of November).
